Meet Maire Aileen Dempsey

Maire's Story

Maire is an experienced attorney, active member of the community and a dedicated martial artist. She is seeking to be a fair judge who serves the people of Cook County.

Maire Aileen Dempsey was born in Evanston, Illinois and is a lifelong Cook County resident.  She currently resides in Old Irving Park. She was raised by two attorneys and is the seventh of twelve children.

During her childhood, her parents would regularly open their home to children from other countries. Those experiences taught Maire to appreciate the importance of diversity and the value of different perspectives. She has volunteered with the Syrian Community Network, assisting local refugees adjusting to life in Chicagoland and helping them navigate day to day issues. Maire also volunteered her legal services at LAF (Formerly the Legal Assistance Foundation of Metropolitan Chicago) assisting individuals with various legal issues including housing, credit and domestic violence.

Maire attended Saint Mary’s College in Notre Dame, IN majoring in political science and graduated from the University of Illinois – College of Law in 2002. She made the Dean’s List in both college and law school.

While in law school, Maire worked for a plaintiff’s personal injury firm, where she discovered her love of litigation. She has worked as a litigator for her entire legal career. After law school, she defended individuals sued after car accidents. She tried dozens of cases, both jury and bench trials. She also represented her clients at arbitration hearings.

Maire then began working as a medical malpractice defense attorney.  She has been representing hospitals, doctors, nurses and other health care professionals for the past 14 years.  She has been involved in all aspects of the litigation process from the filing of the suit through resolution, whether that be settlement, jury trial, or mediation.

In addition to her legal career, Maire is a martial arts enthusiast and helps educate about the importance of women’s self-defense; particularly how to fight back to prevent sexual assault.  She has earned her black belt in karate and teaches Modern Arnis (a stick fighting art) and trains in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

Maire is committed to protecting the constitutional rights of all residents, protecting public safety and ensuring the justice system is fair and accessible for all.
